Aarushi Talwar’S father Rajesh Talwar was on Tuesday remanded in three days’ police custody by the Noida Chief Judicial Magistrate’s (CJM) court.
Lawyers of the Gautam Budha Nagar Bar Association, who were on strike in support of the Gujjar agitation, did not allow Talwar’s advocates to argue the case. Talwar himself pleaded his case.
Around 12.08 pm, four vehicles carrying prisoners from the Dasna jail, including Talwar, reached the Noida Phase II court. The drivers of the vehicles said they had started at 9.40 a.m. from the jail but due to traffic jams on the national highway near Lal Kuan, they were delayed by an hour.
Before Talwar was taken to the CJM’s court, the Noida Police led by SP (city) AK Tripathi asked the media to move out of the court complex. He said only advocates of Talwar’s family could enter.
When proceedings started, bar association members manhandled Talwar’s relatives and his advocate Mahinder Pratap Singh.
After the melee, CJM AK Singh heard the prosecution officer and Talwar and sent him on police remand for three days. A lawyer will be there with Talwar during the interrogation period.
Senior prosecution officer PC Srivastava said, “It was argued that Rajesh Talwar had lodged an FIR against Hemraj that he had murdered his daughter Arushi and after committing the crime ran away. After one day, the body of Hemraj was found lying on the terrace, which was locked. When police went to the spot, they recovered the dead body of Hemraj in the absence of the Talwars.”
“Rajesh and his wife had gone to Haridwar to immerse her ashes in the Ganga,” said Srivastava.
Srivastava said when they came back, the police interrogated Rajesh Talwar, who confessed that he had killed his daughter and Hemraj. “He also confessed that he had illicit relations with Dr Anita Durrani. He said Aarushi was threatening to expose the relation before her grandparents,” he said.
Earlier, Talwar moved an adjournment application, seeking another date for hearing his plea because of the lawyers’ strike. He said he was innocent and had not confessed anything.
Talwar’s advocate Mahinder Pratap Singh said, “I had requested the bar association to allow me to appear for Talwar but they rejected my request. It was then decided that the adjournment application would be moved by Rajesh Talwar himself.”

Police clueless
With the Noida double murder case proving to be a tough nut to crack, five days after the sensational killing of the teenaged school girl Aarushi Talwar and the family’s domestic help Hemraj, the police have now pinned their hopes on call details of the missing mobile phones of the deceased for reaching any conclusion.
Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order and Special Task Force) Brij Lal said here on Tuesday that the phone call details were being examined by the Noida police and the Special Task Force but nothing definite had emerged so far. The mobile phones remain untraced, he added.
Mr. Lal said the case had not been worked out so far and no arrests had been made though over a dozen persons, including Aarushi’s parents and close relatives, had been interrogated by the police. He ruled out the possibility of pressure being applied on the investigating teams in a bid to hush up the case considering that it involved a family belonging to the affluent upper middle class section of society. The Autopsy
A sharp-edged surgical instrument was used to slit the throats of Noida girl Aarushi Talwar and her servant Hemraj and both were killed at around the same time, a police official said on Sunday citing the autopsy report.
Giving details of the report, Superintendent of Police Mahesh Mishra said there was no alcohol found in Hemraj.
Meanwhile, the station officer of Sector-20 police station of Noida has been shifted to the police lines. This follows the embarrassment the police faced after the servant’s body was found on the terrace of the Talwar home on Saturday, a day after Aarushi’s body was discovered. Hemraj was suspected to be the teenager’s killer earlier and police teams had fanned out to search for him.

In a bizarre twist to the murder of young Arushi, who was found stabbed to death at her Sector 25 house here on Friday, the body of the suspect Hemraj was found with his throat slit on the terrace of the same house on Saturday.
The 14-year-old daughter of a dentist couple was found lying in a pool of blood in her bedroom with deep stab injuries on her face and head. Her body was found by her father Rajesh Talwar when he went to her room to wake her up in the morning.
The police had suspected the involvement of domestic help Hemraj in the crime as they found him “missing”. A reward of Rs.20,000 had also been announced for providing any information leading to him.
However, the case turned on its head on Saturday when retired senior police officer K.K. Gautam staying in the neighbourhood of the family discovered the brutally stabbed body of Hemraj on the terrace of the same building on Saturday afternoon. The officer had gone to the house of the Talwars to convey his condolences to the bereaved family and apparently his cop instincts took him towards the terrace.
“I had gone to the Talwars to express my condolences and went to the room of Arushi and the domestic help to have a look at the crime scene. I found several clues there and decided to reconstruct the sequence. Following the leads, I reached the terrace of the house and found the door locked. When the lock was broken, I was flabbergasted to find a body lying in a pool of blood. The deceased was later identified as Hemraj,” said Mr. Gautam.
In the wake of the dramatic discovery of the body from the terrace of the same house, the police said the involvement of a third person cannot be ruled out.
“The discovery of the body has completely changed the line of investigation. We are now investigating the possible involvement of a third person. There are three or four possibilities but it would not be right to discuss those at this point in time. The post-mortem report is expected to throw more light,” said SHO (Sector-20) Datta Ram Nauneria, who is investigating the case.
Based on his inspection of the crime scene, Mr. Gautam said that more than one person could be behind the murder.
“The body of Hemraj has been dragged several metres in an attempt to hide it. It cannot be the handiwork of a single man. There must be more than one person involved in the murder. Since there are no blood stains on the staircase, Hemraj must have been murdered on the terrace. The blood stains on the terrace door can help the police reach the assailants. I think the assailants could have also hid the weapon of offence somewhere on the terrace itself,” added Mr. Gautam.
