Samir basu on Nandigram

Posted by speakindia on March 20, 2008

Mr. Samir Basu commented on the article Nandigram issue. Here is what he had to say

Your account of Nandigram incident is half truth. Sequence of event is OK. But main cause behind formation of BUPc has not been mentioned. a large part of Nadigram or CHAR NANDIGRAM has been formed as a process of siltation and the land belongs to W.B. Govt. Local Panchayats used to issue temporary right to local residents to cultivate on such land. Money used to be taken by Panchayat leaders and local CPIM and TRINAMUL leaders alike. WB Govt. decoded to utilise a large part of such CHAr land – actually belonging to GOVT so that minimum compensation on account of Land acquisition can be paid. TRINAMUL and asection of LEFT leaders in fear of losing financial interest formed BUPC and resisted the acquisition. It is more for personal gain than for public purpose. Social Activists and NGOs involved in the movement in the name of sympathy for general public have minted money and received millions of dollars as foreign grants. A RTI petition has been lodged to gain information that how mucht money these NGOs and activists have received after joining Nandigram movement.

Nandigram Compensation – “burning the wet wounds”

Posted by speakindia on January 1, 2008

Nandigram roseThe Singur and Nandigram incidents over the issue of industrialisation, have not sent “a wrong message” to investors, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said on Friday.

Though the state received negative publicity due to the violent protest by villagers at these two places, a wrong message was not sent, Bhattacharjee told the annual general meeting of Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry here.

“There has been no withdrawal of proposed investments which were committed by the investors,” the chief minister said, adding “investment flows have not been affected.”

The year 2007 saw West Bengal receiving its highest investments in the last 15 years. Iron and steel attracted investments to the tune of Rs 90,000 crore, followed by chemicals and petrochemicals and food processing, he said.

West Bengal was a strong contender for setting up of a petrochemicals, chemicals and petroleum investment region (PCP&IR), The state government has already forwarded proposal to the Centre for locating the PCP&IR at Nayachar islands near Haldia.

On the infrastructure front, he said modernisation of Dum Dum airport would start in January 2008 and would be completed by 2010.

Speak India verdict

The investments have been to the tune of RS 90,000 crore. It doesn’t matter if they pay 1 crore in compensation. At least even if they get 1% of the investment as commission, it is enough for them to not work for the next 100 years. What is your thought on this.

Nandigram Compensation

Posted by speakindia on January 1, 2008

Nandigram, November 30 Family members of the 14 people killed in police firing during anti-land acquisition protest on March 14 at Nandigram received their compensation on Sunday, nine months after the incident.

The relatives of 13 victims, except for those of Joydeb Das, received Rs 5 lakh as compensation.

The amount was earlier fixed by the Kolkata High Court early this month. Nobody was found at the Das residence to receive the money, BDO Nandigram-I Shantiram Garai said.

Garai said a new front would be formed to chalk out a common minimum agenda and a steering and coordination committee.

But state Congress working president Pradip Bhattacharya said there was no party-to-party discussion with the Trinamool Congress on the formation of the new Front, nor was “our party informed of Sunday’s meeting”. Bhattacharya, however, said he would talk to the Trinamool as well as Congress high command regarding the new Front.

Communist Horror: The true story of CPI(M)

Posted by speakindia on December 18, 2007

The communists are destroying this nation. We all saw the horror at Nandigram. The point I am trying to make here is that if so many people where not interested why did you go and kill them, when it is their land, their house.

The answer is because your vested interests are involved (Money)

They say they will take us forward. Its only they who are going to move forward by selling India to foreigners. The same what we did and brought the britishers to our country. The result was 300 years of slavery. its time we speak up. Where ever you are spread this word against the communists, don’t support them. Else like poor peasants of Nandigram you too (may god forbid) might end up in a similar manner. Do you want any of your loved one to have a similar fate, or even anybody to have such a fate. The answer is no. its time we raise our voice. We want justice. The communists are responsible for the 100s of people killed in Nandigram. They are accountable. They should be punished.

Here are some of the horror, but true facts about the CPI(M)

Your opinion on Nandigram dispute

Posted by speakindia on November 14, 2007

Nadigram dispute has shown that how the political parties in India mis-use their power for their vested interests and do not look into the needs of the common man and as a result the inocent common man suffers. This has also happened in the past. Human life does not have any value in this country and more innocent people will keep on dying.

What are your opinions on this issue?

How do you think it should be tackeled?

Is the govt right?

If the govt is wrong should they be punished and if yes how?

Nandigram dispute
source:wikipedia
The Nandigram SEZ controversy, which caused the Nandigram massacre, started when the West Bengal government decided that the Salim Group of Indonesia would set up a chemical hub under the SEZ policy at Nandigram, a rural area in the district of Purba Medinipur. The villagers took over the administration of the area and all the roads to the villages were cut off. The administration was directed to break the Bhumi Ucched Protirodh Commitee’s (BUPC) resistance at Nandigram and a massive operation with at least 3,000 policemen was launched on March 14, 2007. However, prior information of the impending action had leaked out to the BUPC who amassed a crowd of roughly 2,000 villagers at the entry points into Nandigram with women and children forming the front ranks. In the resulting mayhem, at least 14 people were killed.
