Tripura Bird Flu Alert

The Tripura government has sounded an alert in the state following outbreak of avian influenza

Culling of Birds has already begun

The presence of H5N1 virus was confirmed by Belgachhia Regional Animal Diseases Diagnostic Centre, Kolkata.

The premier government poultry farm at R K Nagar here has started culling of ducks following an outbreak of bird flu in Tripura.

The state government has alerted the authorities and culling has begun.

Following instructions from the Central expert team, the State government has decided to cull poultry within a 3 km radius of the farm that was found infected.

India first reported outbreak of the avian flu in 2006, followed by another outbreak in 2008. Several thousand birds had been culled during at the time.

Although currently there are no reports of flu outbreak among chicken.

This may have an impact on the present cricket world cup 2011, jointly hosted by Bangladesh, India and Srilanka.
