In a recent study at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), rats were subjected to radiation from mobile phones. They were found to have damaged DNA and a very low sperm count. This were leading reduction in size of testis and infertility. The Union health ministry now wants to find out whether cellphones could have same adverse effects on our health. Nitish Katara murder – The complete story

Nitish Katara was a year old business executive in Delhi who was murdered in the early hours of February , , apparently by the son of an influential Indian politician. The son of an IAS officer in the Ministry of Shipping, Nitish had recently graduated from the Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad. There, he had fallen in love with his classmate, Bharti Yadav, who comes from a criminal-politician family. It is widely believed that he was murdered by Bharti’s brother Vikas Yadav, because the family did not approve their relationship.

Bharti Yadav is the daughter of D. P. Yadav, “unrivalled don of western Uttar Pradesh”. Before entering politics, D. P. Yadav had racked up nine murder charges, and was behind a spurious liquor sale which killed people in the early s. Since , he has served several terms as minister in the state government with Mulayam Singh Yadav. In , he became a member of the Indian Parliament under the Bharatiya Janata Party but such was the ensuiing scandal that the party threw him out within days. IPL update: Kolkatta Knights win as Ganguly shines

What a thrilling game. Kolkata seemed to be out of the game with almost 15 runs per over required in the last 5 overs. That was before Ganguly and Gul got together, putting on 49 runs in 18 balls. With 15 required off the last over, Ganguly was equal to the task, wrapping up the match with 2 balls to spare, reminiscent of how Warne did it for his team against the Deccan Chargers.

Karnataka Polls: BJP wins

BJP has won the Karnataka polls.

Here is what the tally looks like

Cong: 80

BJP:110

JD:28

others:6

224/224

Counting of votes in the 224 assembly constituencies that went to polls in three phases in Karnataka began on Sunday under tight security cover.

The trends were expected to trickle in from 10.30 am and the first result by 11 am, according to electoral authorities.

The election has evoked intense curiosity among the people of the state who have been waiting to see whether they would have a single party rule or the elections return yet another fractured verdict as in 2004.

BJP had struck an optimistic note, saying it was projected to win 117 to 125 seats, while Congress, in a cautious approach settled down for a “simple” majority.

JDS, is eyeing for a mark, obviously the hung House, to enable the party to play a role in government formation.

Karnataka is the first state in the country to face election as per redrawn constituencies.
